It has been a joy to see so many of our juniors back on a hockey pitch after a difficult 18 months.  The older age groups have been back training for a few weeks now and our younger members on a Sunday for only 2.  Thanks to our army of coaches and volunteers who make these sessions happen and ensure they run smoothly, and are as safe as possible whilst we are still facing Covid!

This season sees a busy schedule of fixtures for our juniors with the introduction of the new junior competitions framework by England Hockey.

The U10s and U12s are entered into the Avon Junior Hockey League Festivals that run throughout the season.  They will also participate in the Avon County In2Hockey tournament on the 7th November.    The U12s had their first AJHL Festival on the 3rd of October where we had a morning and afternoon team out in force.  The Morning team had a set of games against Bristol and West, Chippenham, Old Bristolians and Westbury and United Banks, with good passing and teamwork they won three games and drew the other and only conceded two goals.  The afternoon team also played some lovely hockey with great teamwork and Peggy in goal was formidable, they faced Westbury and United Banks, Firebrands, Clifton Robinsons A and Clifton Robinson B.

The U8s have been working hard at their training sessions and we are hoping to arrange some friendly local fixtures later in the season.

The U14-U18 teams are entered into various tiers within the new West Junior League, West Knock Out Champs, England Hockey Knock Out Champs and the Avon Junior Hockey League. Teams kicked off the West League on the 26th September with great results across the board.  Unfortunately, three games were hit by Covid disruption, and we are hoping to get these re-arranged very soon.  Last Sunday saw the EH Knock Out competitions get under way, and it was an impressive set of results from our U14 A and U16 A boys and girls squads with all 4 getting through to the next round later on this month.

With such a busy schedule of matches we must stress our thanks to everyone who is involved in ensuring they can take place from our umpire co-ordinator, umpires, coaches, managers, parents and of course the players.  We cannot wait to see the rest of our teams in action very soon.

On top of all the junior action a big percentage of our U14-U18 players also play with in our senior section and we must congratulate all those who have made their debuts in the West League and National League teams.

Finally, to all our players who represent their County, PC or NAGS within the England Hockey Player Pathway congratulations on all your selections this is testament to your hard work and commitment to hockey.
