TBB Men E v Corsham
The men’s E team had a tough start to their Central 2 league campaign with a trip to fellow promoted team Corsham.
Despite the poor conditions, the game start at a frantic pace with both teams moving the ball quickly and closing any space. The home team took the lead when the ball was lost in midfield to allow a break against the Buccs defense and Newman in the Buccs goal could not quite get to the ball. Despite the setback, the midfield of McDonald, Peden, Warwick, Lorie Jnr and Mead kept the Corsham team under pressure and did not allow them to pass through. The front 4 unit of Bowman, McAlpine, Charlwood and Lowrie also worked hard.
The home team had several ex-Buccs and City of Bath players who made life extremely hard for a young and developing Buccs side putting them under pressure and forcing errors.
Mead was very impressive and broke the line several times to put the ball into dangerous areas. However, the visitors were not able to breach the Corsham defensive line and another mistake led to a second goal before the break.
Buccs knew if they could get a goal back then the home team would be under pressure. Newman, Pellow, Ratcliff, and Turner marshalled from the back and the ball transferred quickly which allowed a break down the right side and Mead to get in behind the Corsham defense. His ball from the line found McAlpine who slotted home with composure to make it 2-1.
Corsham had to dig deep to create chances and Newman made number of impressive saves to keep the game tight. However, a defensive lapse allowed the Corsham forward time at the top of the D to shoot. Newman again saved well but the ball went loose and was put in by the arriving Corsham midfield player.
The game finished 3-1, despite a couple of late chances for Buccs to get back into the game.
The Es should take consolation that Corsham had to play at their best to beat them but that there is more to come from this developing team.
