Today the 16 Girls competed in a very high quality Regional Finals tournament. This is the first U16 TBB Girls team to qualify at this level in the EH Cup for over 8 years! (Report by Lori Redman)
Drawn against Isca, Bournemouth and Reading it was always going to be an exciting and competitive day of hockey and the TBB Girls did not disappoint in their efforts. The first match against Isca was evenly balanced with TBB defending brilliantly against waves of attacking play. Despite a couple of unsuccessful short corners to TBB it looked as though a draw would be the end result. That was until Isca were awarded a short corner during a two minute freak hale storm! TBB conceded the goal and despite several determined attacks, they were unable to equalise.
Every squad player rotated on to contribute to all three matches on the day.
Izzie and Ellie were fantastic in goal; The team created several attacking and short corner opportunities throughout the day and should be praised for their unstinted hard work and effort. Unfortunately, the team were unable to score.
The players showed real commitment to the cause in the final match against Reading, setting their own targets, they were only 1:0 down at half time following some skilful play. However, the day was not to be TBB’s.
The players should be proud of their efforts and of how they remained supportive and encouraging of each other throughout the day.
This tournament was a great experience and has shown the girls’ that they can compete at this level and should aspire to do so again next year.
Well done for reaching the Regionals and ‘bring on’ next year!
