NEW RULES

Posted by Nick Kendall on 12 January 2015

You may have read about the changes to the Rules of Hockey as agreed by FIH in December 2014.

See http://www.englandhockey.co.uk/news.asp?itemid=31168&itemTitle=England+Hockey+response+to+FIH+rule+changes&section=22

You will note that it states – “The Rules of Hockey apply to all levels of the game, and are effective from 1 January 2015 at International level. National Associations have discretion to decide the date of their implementation at National level. Additionally, National Associations may apply to FIH to opt out of particular Rules at levels below their top domestic Leagues and/or for particular age groups, should they so wish”

As you will be aware some of the Rule changes -  breaking at a penalty corner, the two minute green card and the use of the stick above the shoulder – are already incorporated into IWHL & NPMHL regulations as variances to the Rules of Hockey.

In general terms England Hockey will not be introducing any of the rules below IWHL/ NPMHL level until 1 August 2015.

However England Hockey requested that the League Committee consider implementing the two rules that are not already incorporated in IWHL/NPMHL regulations (as shown below) at this level for the second half of the season. This is primarily to support our international teams as the Rule changes take effect for international hockey from 1 January 2015.

These changes would apply to both the Premier Division and Conferences. Also, noting that only IWHL/NPMHL teams are in their respective Cups, the rule changes would apply to the last three rounds of the Cups too.
