Rearranged double weekend matches usually spell disaster for the Mariners but despite having a few key players missing, the F's ran out comfortable winners....eventually.
West Wilts started off brightly enough, working Buccs defence and midfield hard, and it wasn't until midway through the first half that the deadlock was finally broken when, a well drilled short corner was expertly dispatched into the top of the net by Blackers on the left post. Another goal, this time from Matt Naylor ensured a slightly comfortable lead at half time.
In the second half, Naylor and Bartlett Jnr burst into life and ripped West Wilts apart down the right. Supported by old heads Warren, White and Silcox, Wilts simply had no answer to the pace and skills of the youngsters with Naylor bagging another two well deserved goals either side of one goal from Silcox. Bartlett was very unlucky not to get a goal himself after a mazy run from right back position through the Wilts midfield only to be denied by a Wilts defender getting a leg in the way of the fierce final shot.
Toward the end of the match Buccs tired and had to rely heavily on the solid defending from Smith, Hodges, Blackers and later Maughan with many forced short corners. Auzins kept the oppositon at bay with a number of key saves, including a brilliant double save, but his goal was eventually breached when tired legs couldn't get back to cover an open back post for a consolation goal for the visitors.
A very good team performance and a weekend of really hard work from all players involved.
MoM: Blackers for his goal and solid defending.
DoD: Blackers for his length of the pitch goal celebration.
