D team battle Gryphons
In this top of the table clash between TBB D and Somerset Gryphons the honours were shared despite the visitors almost taking all three points. Buccs did not settle well and allowed Gryphons to dominate midfield and create a number of chances. If it was not for the heroics of Newman in goal backed up by defenders Herd, Hill and Pellow the game could have been lost in the first half. Buccs relied on the break to create chances of their own but these were few and far between. However, the pressure from the home team told in the end as a loss of the ball in midfield allowed them to have a 4 on 2 break which they converted to take the lead. Buccs held on until half time to keep it at only one goal.
After a tactical change Buccs then started to show the form that had taken them to second in the league with Sandey, Blumsom and Warwick taking control in the midfield. The excellent movement of the forwards of Bowman, Reeves and Parish pulled the Gryphons defence out of position only for the chances created to be well saved by the home keeper. A quick release of the ball down the right found Bowman who patiently held onto the ball for the support of the midfield to arrive and Blumson to pass to Warwick to score at the back post to make it 1-1. To add to the tension, the visitors were down to ten men when Herd was green carded for a last ditch tackle. Fortunately, Gryphons were unable to score from the resulting penalty corner. Till, Joubert, Jenkins and Peden continued to provide the energy and pressure in the Buccs midfield and with 10 minutes to go created a great opportunity for Bowman only for his shot to fly just wide of the post. Buccs were down to 10 again briefly when Pellow was green carded late on but the visitors remained strong and finished on top to take a well deserved point.
