Cardiff & Met Bs arrived at the Sitec last Saturday having won their previous four games and were in with a chance of promotion. They left well beaten in an entertaining game that sprung into life in the seocnd half and ended their chances of going up to the Premiership.
Already doomed to drop back down into the Conference North having failed to survive in the league of death as the Championship is known, the Sabres started quite well but out was Met who took the lead midway through the first half with a tap in from a pass that wasn't cut out by either defender nor our keeper from the by line. We pressed for the equaliser which came from our leading marksman Nick Middleton on the stroke of half time.
The Sabres picked up the pace in the second half and started to really dominate the midfield with Tom Weston, having recovered from his recent ankle injury, linking well with Chris Wiseman and Ben Voutt to claim two goals for himself from open play. Two further goals from Nick Middleton (his15th of the season) and Ben Voutt thwarted any Mets comeback.
Amazingly only our 4th win of the season in the league but it was the overall performance that pleased captain Tom Parsons and watching coach Angus Ross. Two more league games left before the all important Somerset Cup Final at the Sitec on Apr 02. No clashing hockey fixtures anywhere that day so here's hoping for a full squad to choose from.
