Welcome to the Bath Mixed Hockey Festival organised and run by Team Bath Buccaneers HC. The festival has been a great success since the first one back in 2000 and welcomes 24 teams (300+ players) from all over UK, Ireland and occasionally from mainland Europe. The standard varies from virgin players to national league but the focus is very much on festival hockey.
The festival is held at the University of Bath and matches are played on two astroturf pitches plus a number of grass pitches for that authentic and traditional festival feel. A marquee bar and barbecue are adjacent to the pitches for purple drinks and burgers whilst the Sports Cafe is available for cafe food and drinks. A kit stall is also on site for those forgotten items and equipment at bargain prices.
Following an initial pool stage teams will be seeded according to performance or in some cases non-performance. Teams will then be entered into the Cup, Plate or Trophy pool stage playing against teams with a similar record in the previous pool stage, so irrespective of how good or bad your team are on the Saturday you'll have something to play for come Sunday. Teams are guaranteed at least eight 20 minutes games of hockey over the course of the weekend. As well as the usual winners trophies there is also the "Team of the Festival" award so be socialiable, have fun and impress the organisers - some are open to liquid bribery!
A range of accommodation is available on campus at a very reasonable cost and within a very short staggering distance of the social and playing locations. The festival is virtually self contained adding to that social festival atmosphere but is close to the beautiful city of Bath for those interested in some sight seeing.
